In 1929, Lady Lucy Revelstoke and her pickpocket-turned-maid Elf are traveling to Egypt on a new ship commissioned by the Empire Line. Lucy is particularly interested to see the sites of ancient Egypt, and Elf – well, Elf is keen to find out how the ancient tomb-raiders mastered their trade.
The voyage should be a treat, as two rival teams of archeologists will give lectures while on route to their digs. Also on board, is a beautiful spiritualist, who correctly predicts that someone will die during the voyage.
Who had a reason to kill the young archaeologist? Is it the work of a Pharaoh’s curse, or someone with a personal motive? Accusations of antiquity smuggling come to light, as Lucy and Elf work against time to find a fiendish murderer before he strikes again.
